A masterwork of sacred art by Father Joe Frey
One of the most remarkable features of Sacred Heart Chapel is the stunning series of 14 Stations of the Cross, painted by Father Joe Frey in 2005. These are not ordinary depictions of Christ's Passion — they are deeply personal works of art that weave the story of the Gospel into the fabric of the Kenosee Lake community.
Father Frey made the extraordinary decision to use the faces and likenesses of real parishioners from the congregation as models for the figures in each station. The result is a profoundly moving experience: the ancient story of Christ's journey to Calvary is told through the faces of neighbors, friends, and fellow worshippers.
Walking the Stations of the Cross at Sacred Heart Chapel is an experience unlike any other. Each painting invites reflection not only on the suffering and sacrifice of Christ but on the presence of faith within our own community. These works transform the chapel into a living gallery — a place where sacred art and devotion are inseparable.
Father Frey's additional artwork adorns other walls of the chapel, creating an atmosphere of beauty and contemplation that enhances every visit and every worship service.
